GRATITUDE: from the Medieval Latin word ‘gratitudin’
………………A feeling of being thankful, appreciative, grateful.
“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.”
― A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
I woke up this morning with a sense of wonder: I wondered how I got this stiff; I wondered how my fingers got this twisted, (yes, yes, I know my brain is also twisted, but one DOES know how that happened, n’est pas!); I wondered how I got to this age; and then again, I wondered how I was lucky enough to make it to this age. It IS, my peeps, all in how we look at things.
Gratitude for me comes in the simplest, most ordinary extraordinary things:
Ahh, purple lilacs in Spring’s sprouting green foliage- a sensual gift for the eyes as well as the nose.
It’s all in taking the time to take it in, to appreciate, to sniff and to give thanks for Mother Nature’s range of adornments, especially when displayed in one of my Mom’s precious treasured vases.
What’s not to love about a sprinkle cake! (x-ne-a on the question mark- sprinkles deserve the!!!) My curly-head toddler, Little Boppin Billy as he was known back in the day, used to love sprinkle donuts from the Baker’s Dozen just up the street- 13 fabulous gooey donuts all jingle-jangle plastered with rainbow-bright sprinkles. I have to admit I had my share of those stick-to-your-front-teeth treasures with my steamin’ hot coffee. MMMM MMMM MMMM.
The problem is, Boppin Billy, now 6-feet-tall, has moved on to his own version of a Baker’s Dozen- The Drinker’s dozen (18 cold ones), while back at the ranch, (literally), Mommy Mom has outsized her sprinkley donuts to sprinkle cakes.
It’s all about being grateful for your boppin’ inner child.
Be grateful for the special people in your life!…. cherished family, delightful friends and yes, even musical icons.
It’s all about the eye candy.
“Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer.”
― Maya Angelou, Celebrations: Rituals of Peace and Prayer
All together now peeps…..It’s all in how you look at the things that life has gifted you with – even when some of those gifts feel like they’ve come from the five and dime store.
“When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.”
― G.K. Chesterton
